Step 1
When you bring your new puppy home your pets will be curious and very excited. Let them get to know each other by sniffing and checking each other out.
-
Step 2
Introducing them outside is a good idea. It gives them more room to run around and get to know each other.
-
Step 3
If you have a dog they may show some aggression towards the new puppy. As long as the dog is not hurting the puppy let them work it out. Your dog is just trying to show that he is in charge.
-
Step 4
If your dog is snarling or biting the puppy sternly tell your dog no, separate them for a while and try again when they have calmed down.
-
Step 5
If you have a cat you may not see them for a few days as they retreat to a safe spot away from the high energy of the puppy. They will come out in their own time. Make sure they still have access to their food and litter box.
-
Step 6
Provide your puppy with his own things. Don’t expect your other dog to be willing to share his pillow, food dish or toys.
-
Step 7
Spend some extra time with your other pets. This will show them that they are still as important to you. In no time they will all be friends.
