Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet
  • Credit Card or PayPal
  1. Step 1

Research: The first thing any savvy Internet shopper should do is comparison shop. Google search the item you are seeking and view the variety of items, stores and prices for each. You can also research the item on Amazon.com and it will bring up a variety of items for a range or prices.

  2. Step 2

Find Coupon Codes: After you find the gift you want, start looking for it at stores that have coupon codes or discount codes on the price of the product or shipping and handling. Although the convenience of having a gift shipped to your home is wonderful- the pricetag associated with the S&H can be pricey- especially around the holidays. Sites like currentcodes.com, hotcouponworld.com, retailmenot.com, couponcabin.com or forums such as frugalinspiration.com/forums can all help you find coupons and coupons and free shipping codes for specific online stores. You can also find online coupons to print and take to regular stores at many of these sites, and also on eBay.

  3. Step 3

Use Online Sale Sites: Overstock.com, Bizrate.com and Amazon.com are popular favorites for finding gifts for the people on your list! There is such a large range of potential gifts on each of these sites that you can most likely find something for everyone! If you can't find what you're looking for on Amazon and Overstock, check out eBay, Craigslist, regular store websites (Target, Macys, Brookstone, etc.). The site TopOnlineShopping.com can help you look for websites by category.

  4. Step 4

Keep Your Information Secure: When using any website for Online shopping, make sure you are doing so through a secure Internet connection, go to trusted websites (retail stores, eBay, Overstock, etc... are typically secure and have symbols indicating their security measures). If you are unsure of a website's security, try researching at the Better Business Bureau to determine legitimacy. Another safety measure is to use a Credit Card instead of your Bank Card/Debit Card. Credit Cards typically have safety features and protection in the case of phishing or Internet scams. Check with your Credit Card company before using it online to make sure you have the proper protection.

  5. Step 5

If you don't have a Credit Card: Use PayPal! PayPal can be linked directly to your Debit Card and provides a safe means of online payment. Used on thousands of Internet stores PayPal has a purchase protection guarantee and is a safe means of purchasing items online without giving out personal information such as your Bank Account or Credit Card number to various stores.
