A snowboard's effectiveness is determined by the sharpness of the wood. It is necessary to have snowboards sharpened because sharpening cuts down on friction between the bottom of your board and the snow, rails or whatever it comes into contact with. If you are snowboarding and are feeling frequent bumps, or going slower downhill than usual, then sharpening your snowboard is a possible solution.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vice grip
  • Snowboard
  • 10 sheets of 6-inch by 6-inch fine-grain sand paper
  • 1 gallon of snowboard wax
  • Foot-long ruler
  1. Step 1

Mount the snowboard to a flat surface, using the vice grip, so that the snowboard's bottom is facing upwards.

  2. Step 2

Sand the entire surface of the snowboard's bottom.

  3. Step 3

Sand the curves, located at the ends of the snowboards.

  4. Step 4

Wax the area that you have sanded with at least two coats.

  5. Step 5

Let the snowboard set for an entire day, allowing the wax to settle.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be liberal in applying the wax, where the more coats you layer onto the snowboard, the smoother the snowboard will move.
  • Be careful not to sand too much into the wood, for you may cause the wood to splinter or crack.
