These light fluffy yeast rolls will have your whole house smelling like the corner bakery of old and your family scurrying to the table wanting to know when dinner will be served. Great with spaghetti and lasagna or delicious all by themselves.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 package of active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups of warm water (100-115F)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 cloves of garlic (minced)
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  1. Step 1

In a large mixing bowl dissolve the yeast and 1 tsp of sugar in 3/4 cup of water. Let stand for about 5 minutes until the yeast starts to bubble then add the remaining water, sugar, egg, salt, 1/4 cup of the butter and 2 1/2 cups of the flour. Add the remaining flour 1 cup at a time until a soft dough forms.

  2. Step 2

Turn dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and knead until dough is elastic. Lightly grease another bowl and place dough into it turning to coat both sides with oil. Cover bowl with a clean towel and set aside to allow dough to rise, about 1 hour or until dough has doubled.

  3. Step 3

When finished rising, punch down dough and turn it out onto a floured work surface, divide in half and roll out in two circles about 12" in diameter. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix remaining butter and garlic and brush onto top surface of each circle, reserving some to brush on tops of rolls. Sprinkle with cheese then cut into 8 wedges like pizza. slices.

  4. Step 4

Starting at wide end roll the slices toward the point. Place on baking sheet with the seam on bottom. Brush tops with remaining butter mixture and sprinkle with more cheese. Bake 15 minutes or until golden brown. Enjoy!!

Tips & Warnings
  • For best dough making results always use a glass or wooden bowl, never metal or plastic.
  • Always use a wood mixing spoon as well.
