Freeze Bread

Making a couple loafs of bread can sometimes be just as easy as making a dozen. Extra bread can be easily frozen and used later for dinners or given as tasty homemade gifts. Learn how to freeze bread effectively to keep breads texture consistent.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Cool bread completely before freezing. Bread that is put in the freezer when hot will become mushy when thawed.

  2. Step 2

Avoid topping bread with icing or other toppings before freezing. Top bread when you are ready to use the bread after it has thawed.

  3. Step 3

Temperature of the freezer should be set a 0 degrees or less.

  4. Step 4

Wrap bread tightly in freezer safe containers such as plastic wrap, freezer paper or aluminum foil.

  5. Step 5

To thaw, loosen the wrapping on the frozen bread. Allow the bread to thaw a room temperature for at least two to three hours.

  6. Step 6

You may either re-wrap the bread for a gift or serve for dinner. Serve bread slightly heated or at room temperature.

Tips & Warnings
  • Heating frozen bread will change to texture of the bread.
