Things You'll Need:
- Tire
- Calendar
-
Step 1
The rubber in tires breaks down rather rapidly. Learn how to select tires made more recently to get the most out of your tires. This is extremely important to motocycle tires as they only have two tires. A motorcycle over a year old should be replaced as the moisture leaves the tire, the tire is proned to splitting. This can cause unsafe driving conditions. Reading the date code can be benificial to get the most out of your money and tire as well as choosing a safe tire.
-
Step 2
Locate the 4 digit code pressed in the tire. This indicates when the tire was made.
-
Step 3
The first two (2) digits indicate the week. For example 06 would be the 6th calendar week.
-
Step 4
The second two (2) digits indicate the year. For example 08 would indicate 2008.
-
Step 5
Example Code 0608
This tire was made the 6th week of 2008.

on 7/20/2009 Great article. I sell tires and I have to concur with your directions. I'd like to add that it may be a good idea to try this while the car is standing still. LOL
