Learn how to make lemonade with a refreshing twist.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 6 cups of cold water
  • 1.5 to 2 cups of sugar (depending on preference)
  • 2 cups of lemon juice (approximately 10-12 lemons)
  • 1/4 cup of lime juice (approximately 2 limes)
  • One ginger root
  • A pair of tongs OR a juicer
  • A knife and a spoon
  • Something to strain the juice if you do not like pulpy drinks, and finally a pitcher!
  1. Step 1

Cut the lemons and limes in halves and squeeze the juice out of them. Watch for the seeds! Add this as well as the sugar to the cold water. Be sure to stir it really well to allow the sugar to dissolve.

  2. Step 2
    Ginger Root.
    Ginger Root.

Although ginger root may be intimidating as to how to slice it, it is surprisingly easy. Just take your spoon over the root and you will see just how simple the outer layer comes off. Once you have the flesh exposed, you can continue to peel it with the spoon or you can grab a peeler and it will do the same thing. Add it to the mixture.

  3. Step 3

Let it sit in the fridge for at least half an hour to get cold and allow the ginger to release its subtle yet excellent flavor. Strain it if you do not care for pulp. Yum!

Tips & Warnings
  • I find it easier than a juicer to take tongs and use the vertex (rather then the part you'd use to pick something up) and squeeze the lemons and limes.
  • To add an extra zing, consider adding a little bit of orange juice to the mix.
  • For those looking for a tangy alcoholic drink, I suggest the addition of Kettle One or Patron.
  • Those who do not like to use granulated white sugar and those who are diabetic should use a sugar substitute like Equal or Splenda.
