Are you considering having some or all of your coins graded and encapsulated by one of the professional grading services? If so, you need to know how to start and which companies can be trusted to accurately grade your coins. Below are a few helpful tips.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Coins
  1. Step 1

Choose the right grading company. There are many choices available today. However, only PCGS, NGC, and ANACS (in that order) are widely accepted as providing accurate coin grades.

  2. Step 2

Visit the website of the grading company. Each professional coin grading company will have steps to follow for submitting your coins. Links to the top three are located in the resources section below.

  3. Step 3

Package coins properly. Also available on the coin grading company's site will be instructions for packaging and sending your raw coins. Follow their directions.

  4. Step 4

Include payment and return postage. Each coin you submit for grading will incur a fee. Again, check with the company you have chosen to grade your coins for the exact amount. Keep in mind that you also will have to include return shipping fees.

Tips & Warnings
  • Using one of the top three grading companies may cost more. However, you will be rewarded when you decide to sell as the coin collecting industry will trust and pay more for these grades.
  • Always follow the grading company's instructions for submitting coins.
