Christmas Tree

Decorating your Christmas tree can be very expensive and just buying a few ornaments to replace the ones you broke last year can add up. Why not have an old fashion Christmas this year and leave the store bought ornaments in the attic. Here are some ideas how you can take some every day items and decorate your Christmas tree to give it an old fashion look and cost you very little money.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Nuts
  • Christmas Cards
  • Teddy Bears
  • Pomanders
  • Popcorn
  • Berries
  • Childrens Art
  • Fruit
  1. Step 1
    Christmas Cards

    Christmas Cards

Take your Christmas cards from last year and put a hole punch through them. Put a ribbon through the hole and tie it in a nice bow. Hang them on your Christmas Tree. If some of the cards or too large, using pinking sheers, cut them to a smaller size.

  2. Step 2
    Teddy Bear

    Teddy Bear

Gather your child's teddy bears or go to the thrift store and purchase teddy bears. You can turn them into Christmas Teddy bears by putting a red ribbon around their neck or adding raffia wings or Santa hats.

  3. Step 3
    Popcorn

    Popcorn

Pop up some popcorn and have everyone sit down for family night and string the popcorn together. You can also use cranberries. Make two and wrap the other around the garland on your fireplace mantel.

  4. Step 4
    Childs Art

    Childs Art

Have your kids draw Christmas reindeer and Santa and cut them out and laminate them. Make a hole on the top with a hole punch, add a ribbon and outline with some squeeze glitter and you have an instant Christmas ornament. Also see my article on How to Use Children's Art for Christmas Gifts.

  5. Step 5
    Pine cone

Go on a nature walk and gather dropped nuts and acorns and pine cones. Spray on a little gold paint or glitter or leave natural. Glue on a ribbon and hang them from the tree.

  6. Step 6
    Berries

    Berries

Cut some branches off of your bushes that have berries on them and push the branch into your tree to add color to your Christmas tree.

  7. Step 7
    Christmas biscuit

Try putting food on your tree, with crackers, cookies and pretzels. Don't forget your best friend and tie some of his dog biscuits to the tree.

  8. Step 8
    Pomander

    Pomander

Make your own Pomanders and hang them from your tree. See my article on How to Make Pomanders to learn how. You can also use ribbon and criss cross it around an apple or lime and then hang it in your tree.
