Instructions

    • 1

Stop buying new items. This is the hardest step and will take a lot of self control. Exceptions to new items would be food, intimate apparel, toiletries and medication.

    • 2

Sign up with freecycle in your area. You will be able to post wanted adds and items that you no longer need.

    • 3

Use Craigslist and eBay. Try to buy from someone who doesn't have to ship long distances.

    • 4

Go to local clothing swaps. Check your local newspaper for ads. If your area does not have one, why not organize one?

    • 5

Trade with family members and friends. Like they say, someone's junk is someone else's treasure.

Tips & Warnings

  • One bonus to buying nothing for a year is the amount of money that you save.

We already try to do this. This year however, we will need a few things that are barely holding on (a new washer and dryer.
