How to Make Cornbread Dressing

Here is a recipe that is made the down south way and is one of my favorites. This dish is best served with turkey, chicken, or pork.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 boxes of jiffy mix
  • 1 bag of pepperidge farms cornbread dressing mixture(the largest bag)
  • 1 onion, minced
  • 1/2 of green peppet. minced
  • 4 celery hearts, minced
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of celery salt
  • 1 tablespoon of black pepper
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons of sage
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of poultry seasoning
  • 4 cans of chicken broth
  • 1 stick of butter or margarine
  • canola cooking spray
  • 13x9 casserole or baking pan
  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

  2. Step 2

    Take the two boxes of jiffy cornbread mix and pour into a medium sized bowl. Add 2 eggs, 2/3 cups milk and mix well. If too firm of a mixture add more milk. Mix well with your mixer, whisk or fork.

  3. Step 3

    Spray canola or vegetable oil into the pan and pour jiffy mixture into the pan. Put into oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.

  4. Step 4

    Once cornbread is done, remove from oven and set aside. Add 1 stick of better.

  5. Step 5

    Chop up onions, green pepper and celery into smail pieces. Sautee in a skillet and cook for 5 minutes. Once they are slightly softened, add to jiffy mixture and crumble cornbread into pieces.

  6. Step 6

    Add Pepperidge Farms Cornbread Mix to the Jiffy mix. Add celery salt, sage, poultry season and celery salt. Heat oven to 350 degrees.

  7. Step 7

    Pour each can of chicken broth into the mixture and blend well. Smooth mixture and place in oven. Bake for 1 hour and 30 minutes.

  8. Step 8

    Let cool for 15 minutes. Serve.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that your pan is oiled so that the dressing will not stick to the pan.
