We live in an age that surrounds us with electronic machines and gadgetry. With all our TVs, phones, games, computers etc. we may have all kinds of conveniences at our fingertips, but we also have lots of opportunities for things to go wrong. We become so used to having these things there to service us that when they don't work it can be a cause for panic.

First, don't Panic. There are so many things that can go wrong with electronic devices. Some are complicated. Some aren't. Yet often when I get error messages, blank screens or blinking lights, my first reaction is "Oh, no! Now what am I going to do? I'm not a 'techie'. I don't know how to repair this stuff!" If you feel that way, don't dismay! It MAY be an easy fix!

Second, before doing anything else, remember to try one super-simple thing. UNPLUG! It is amazing how many bizarre problems can be cured by simply unplugging.

      Reset the television

Wait at least thirty seconds for the lines to clear before plugging in again. My television refuses to turn on every few months. I unplug it and wait. It resets. I turn it on. Magic! All's well.

      Unplug the network card

After replugging, turn on your device and try again. My computer wouldn't access the Internet. It seemed maybe I had a faulty network card and all the electronics stores were closed! I unplugged. Fixed!

      Pull the cell phone battery

This will work on battery-operated devices as well. My cell phone seemed dead though I knew it was charged. Out came the battery for 30 seconds. Back it went. I pushed the reset and voila! The phone is fine.

If clearing the lines does not work, check your manuals for troubleshooting.

There are certainly times when there will be more complicated problems with devices that require new parts or professional service. But this article is for those of us who are not particularly electronically inclined. It is amazing how many times you may be able to 'repair' an electronic problem by remembering to unplug it first. This has worked with my cable boxes, laptops and more. It can't hurt to try. And it could save you time, money and embarrassment. If it doesn't work, of course, you are then welcome to panic!

Good tips on getting a darn thing to work by first just relaxing to be able to get it to do so. I'm thinking sometimes electronics feel your stress LOL and get scared to work once they get slapped and maybe some cases cursed at.
