This article is on how to install a satellite dish and lnb's on your dish. If you can find North, you can install your own dish to receive your favorite channels.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

1st thing is to locate where you are going to install your satellite dish relative to your house? Use your compass to find North first. If you are mounting your dish on your roof, you will need a good sturdy ladder secured to your roof. Locate where on your roof or your wall, where you will have the clearest line of sight to the north.

  2. Step 2

Drill two holes in the wall or if mounting the dish on your roof, you will need to locate a good, solid structure to bolt your dish arm onto. Have your compass handy for this part. Find north and mount your dish arm pointing towards the north. Make sure you mount your dish with the neck of the post the dish goes on, so that the angle of the arm is straight up and down and level to your roof or wall. I use a bubble level for this. Once your dish arm is mounted, put the other two screws in the other two holes. Now slip the dish down over the arm, so it will float freely left or right. Slightly tighten the bolts on the rear of the dish so it will snug up the dish to the arm to the point to where you can still move the dish slightly. Now screw on your coax to the LNB and run the coax down through the Y yoke at the end of the dish, so your coax is protruding down and out the arm of the post.

  3. Step 3

Drill a hole in the area of where your coax is going to come through the wall, close to where your TV is setting and the dish box is located. Push the end of the coax through the wall to where it comes into the house and goes over to connect to your satellite box. Use one of the twist on ends to your coax to go into the dish box and also on the roof to where it will screw into the LNB on the dish. Once you have done this, turn on your Television and your dish box and have someone watch your TV for signal while you go back on the roof or the outside wall to locate your satellite.

Tips & Warnings
  • Locate your satellite! you will notice on the back of the dish, there are two bolts that tighten the left and right slippage of the dish and two bolts on each side of the dish for the up and down elevation setting. Move your dish to find satellite 119, Echo Star 7 until you are pointed at the compass point of about 148 degrees approximately. Move your elevation of your dish, the up and down movement until your dish is at about 38 to 40 degrees. If you are pointed at those degrees, you should be receiving some type of a signal. Once you do get your signal to come in, you can peak your settings until you get the best signal. Check your settings on your satellite box, where it shows your signal meter and keep moving your dish slightly either left or right until you get the highest reading on your signal gauge. Once you get the best signal, tighten down all the bolts good and tight and tack your coax down to the wall for securing it to the side of the house or building. Have a good viewing pleasure.
  • When installing your satellite dish, make sure you are not around any wires that carry electricity. Make sure while drilling through your wall, not to run into any wires in the wall. This is where a good stud finder comes in handy as they will also locate any wires in the area.
