Things You'll Need:

  • Internet
  • Online Teaching Program
  1. Step 1

Choose a program. There are many online teaching degrees out there and you will need to do the research to find the program that is best for you. BE SURE THE SCHOOL IS ACCREDITED!

  2. Step 2

Prepare for hard work. If you are self-disciplined and motivated, you can complete an online degree. It is important that you understand that online programs typically require more work because you are not attending classes and participating in live discussions.

  3. Step 3

Be sure to participate. Since you are not attending a physical classroom, many online programs will require you to sign in and make meaningful contributions several times a week. This is important, so do not neglect this part of the classes.

  4. Step 4

Stay disciplined. Sign in close to everyday. Since you are not going to class, you will need to be disciplined to make the time for school. Some classes will require a lot of work and even missing ONE day can leave a lot of catch up work.

  5. Step 5

Communicate with your program adviser. In a teaching degree, there are many milestones along the way and your adviser will help keep you on top of the requirements.

  6. Step 6

Accomplish all necessary program requirements. It is crucial to stay on track with the program requirements and milestones. There will be tests that need to be scheduled, observations, fingerprints, etc. Stay on target.

  7. Step 7

Balance your time. If you balance your time effectively, you can get your schoolwork done effectively and efficiently and still have time for all the other things in your life.

  8. Step 8

Learn. This may seem obvious in that you will learn. However, take the time and read classmates responses and presentations. Ask important questions. Put some thought into your discussions and homework. You will be a teacher someday so learn as much as you can!

  9. Step 9
    Observing a classroom
    Observing a classroom

Get your observation done! To be a teacher, states require a certain amount of observation hours in school environments you will be teaching. Time can run out quick and the last thing you want to be doing is trying to cram hours in around holidays or spring break!

  10. Step 10
    Student teaching can be challenging
    Student teaching can be challenging

Plan for student teaching. This is the most important part of your degree and is required to be a teacher. Pick the location wisely and start thinking about it early on in the program. If there is a school or teacher you like, use some observation hours to ask the teacher to be your sponsor. Your adviser will assist you in this process.

Tips & Warnings
  • Talk to teachers during your observation hours. Ask questions.
  • Get information about the environment and administration at the schools, also.
