Tips on how to properly prepare for a Public Speaking engagement.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

For those people who don't do a great deal of Public Speaking, there are a few things you need to do in order to prepare for the big day. First, don't memorize what you are going to say, that is the worst thing that you can do. A couple days prior to the Public Speaking engagement, stand in front of the mirror and rehearse, but do not read it from the paper, only glance down at your notes occasionally, You want to sound like you know exactly what you are talking out, so know the material well.

  2. Step 2

It is natural to be a bit nervous, especially if you have to get up in front of Hundreds of people. The best way to handle the jitters is, once you get up in front of the crowd, just picture the crowd in their undergarments, Seriously, it will work. You may even smile and laugh to yourself. You have nothing to be nervous about, but at the same time, no one is perfect, even if you make a slight mistake it is nothing to worry about. It may be helpful to inject a bit of humor in to your speech, it can never hurt.

  3. Step 3

Very important, don't look directly at one person in the audience, look forward, it will actually help you a great deal not to have direct eye contact with any member of the audience. Begin your presentation with a strong and confident voice, of course make sure the microphone is working properly. Explain as to what you will be trying to convey to your audience, Lastly, make sure you reserve a few minutes when you complete the presentation to answer any questions. After the first couple of public presentations, you will get better each time. Sooner or later Public Speaking in front of a crowd will be a "Piece of Cake". There are schools that teach Public Speaking, however many people are able to learn on their own through their experience.
