Get Rid of Dust Mites & Help Your Allergies

Dust mites are small microscopic organisms that can create uncomfortable allergic symptoms for people that have allergies. By reducing the amount of dust you have, you will cut down on the dust mites, and reduce your allergy symptoms.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Before you begin the process of getting rid of dust mites, purchase a dust mask. The mask will help you prevent inhaling any dust that gets into the air while cleaning.

  2. Step 2

Use a damp cloth instead of just a dry cloth. The damp cloth will pick up the dust and gets rid of it. Using a dry cloth will only move it around into the air. If you want to prevent using chemicals, you can use a mild solution of vinegar and water.

  3. Step 3
Avoid having a lot of knickknacks.

Reduce your clutter. Having a lot of clutter or collectibles is a dust collector.

  4. Step 4

Change your bedding once a week. Washing all your sheets, blankets and pillowcases in very hot water will kill the dust mites. Use dust proof covers for your mattresses and pillows. You can find these in stores like Target or home stores. You should also wash your window treatments regularly in warm water.

  5. Step 5

Vacuum on a regular basis using a high efficiency vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter. I purchased a Dyson vaccum that is specific for allergies which I highly recommend for anyone with allergies.

  6. Step 6

Mop your floors with a solution of vinegar and water. This will eliminate excess dust.
