Things You'll Need:
- Comb
- rollers
- hair net (triangle net)
-
Step 1
Decide how you want your hair to curl.
Do you want a tight curl, medium curl or just a body wave?
How you set the roller will determine the type of curl you have.
Also the direction you want the curl to go needs to be decided here.
Forward, back. Take into consideration the way your hair grows. It is always easier to "go with the flow" then against it. This will make a better style in the end. -
Step 2
Once you have decided on all the above, section your hair.
Sides, top, back. I have found that it usually takes 2 to 3 on the sides, 1 on top and 1 to 2 on the back.
If you have ever sectioned hair for a perm it is similar set up.
Now take a subsection no thicker than the full diameter of the roller. -
Step 3
Lightly and I do mean lighlty dampen the hair with water or use a setting gel. If you put too much water or gel on your hair it will NOT curl. It will only stay wet.
-
Step 4
If you want a tight curl, you need to roll the hair so it is on base. This means that once the hair is rolled, the roller is setting directly on top of the section that you parted off for it. This is done by pulling the hair at a 45% angle forward to the roll. When using the foam rollers, the tighter you start winding the hair around the roller the tighter the ends will be. So be sure to watch this or the ends will look like you stuck your finger in a light socket when you brush it out.
For a medium curl, roll 1/2 on base. This is done by pulling the hair out at a 90% angle from your section for the roller set. Once rolled the curl will set 1/2 on section.
For a wave or loose curl, roll off base, this is done by pulling the hair at 45% angle downward from the base. This roll gives a lot of body. -
Step 5
Once you have your head in rollers. Place a triangle net over the entire head and tie off. This is to hold the rollers in place.
You can sleep in rollers or just leave up for a few hours checking often to see how the curl is going. -
Step 6
When ready to take out rollers. Just unsnap and unroll.
Brush and style as you like.
