Step 1
First you’ll want to rest or hover your mouse on the folder that you want to decorate and then right-click to make the drop down menue appear. Select "Properties" from the menu that appears.

From the menu that suddenly populates you will want to choose the tab that is labled “Customize” .

Step 3
From the next menu you’ll click “Choose File” from underneath the “Folder Picture” heading in Windows Vista. If you don't have Vista you will want to click “Choose Picture” from underneath the "Folder Picture" heading in Windows XP.

Step 4
Use the "Browse" dialog box to locate the exact image that you want to use for your folder icon/graphic. Click the “Open” Button to select the image that you want to use, then click “OK.”

Step 5
Voila! You’re done. Now you have a folder that is nicely decorated with the graphic or photo that you want.

on 5/14/2009 Ok, so I followed all the steps, chose my pic, saw a preview, but when I clicked on apply and ok, no pic was on the folder. HELP!!!!!

on 12/15/2008 I discovered this a couple of months ago and love the feature! I also use different icons for my folders to make them more unique. cool tool! 5 stars!
