Want to learn how to make a tasty treat that is healthy, tasty, and significantly less expensive than the protein shakes served at your gym? Check out my recipe below:

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/2 cup organic milk
  • 1 organic banana
  • 2 tbsp organic peanut butter
  • 1/8 cup organic dehydrated goji berries
  • 1 scoop chocolate whey protein powder
  • 5-8 ice cubes
  • a blender
  1. Step 1

Blend milk, peanut butter, goji berries, banana, and protein powder until uniformly mixed. Don't worry about getting it perfect right now, because we'll be doing some more blending in the next step. At this point, you just want to make sure that the peanut butter is pretty well blended with the other ingredients.

  2. Step 2

Insert ice cubes and blend using the “ice crush” function of your blender, until smooth. Make sure all the ice has been crushed and mixed uniformly, but don't blend too long, or the mixture will begin to get frothy.

  3. Step 3

Pour and enjoy your Goji-Banana Peanut Butter Protein Shake. This shake is very healthy, as it is a good source of calcium, powerful antioxidants, and healthy proteins. At only $2.32 per serving, it's a bargain compared to the shakes you can buy at your gym. Drink up and enjoy, knowing that you are taking steps to improve your health and your wallet!

Tips & Warnings
  • Use about 5 ice cubes if using a frozen banana, or 8 otherwise
  • Experiment with the recipe to see if you can find new combinations that you like better
  • Try using different flavors of protein powder. Chocolate protein powder is my favorite, but vanilla or other flavors may be good as well.
  • Make sure you are not consuming too much protein. One protein shake will not hurt you, but if you choose to consume several per day, make sure you are working your body hard enough to make use of all the extra protein. For example, a person who is weight training will require more protein than somebody who doesn't work out frequently.
  • If you are consuming a lot of protein, remember to drink a lot of water.
