Loofah scrub soaps are easy to make and can be a great homemade gift. They are great for exfoliating the skin in the bath or shower. They can be scented using essential oils or fragrance oils, or left completely unscented. The loofah slices are used for exfoliation and add a decorative touch to the soap.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Loofah sponge
  • Melt-and-pour soap
  • Scissors
  • Muffin pan
  • Glass measuring cup
  • Fragrance, as desired (optional)
  1. Step 1

Cut the loofah sponge into 1-inch-thick slices. They must fit into the cups of the muffin pan.

  2. Step 2

Place the loofah slices in the cups of the muffin pan.

  3. Step 3

Cut melt-and-pour soap into small chunks and place them in the measuring cup.

  4. Step 4

Melt your melt-and-pour soap using short bursts of heat in the microwave. You need just enough heat to melt the soap. Do not allow the soap to boil over.

  5. Step 5

Add your fragrance oil or essential oil to the melted soap if you wish your soap to be scented. Gently stir to incorporate the scent throughout the melted soap.

  6. Step 6

Pour your melted soap over the loofah slices in the muffin pan.

  7. Step 7

Allow your soap to cool and harden. You may need to occasionally push the loofah slices back into the soap, as they will expand as they absorb the melted soap.

  8. Step 8

Release the loofah soap from the muffin pan when it's completely cool and hard.

Tips & Warnings
  • Choose fragrances to match the use of the soap. Lavender makes a great scent for bath soap, while orange essential oil makes a great scent for hand soap for the kitchen. Silicone muffin pans allow the soap to pop out much easier than metal pans.
  • If your soap becomes stuck in the pan, try putting it in the freezer for about 10 minutes and then try to release them. While this project may be suitable for older children, adult supervision is strongly suggested. An adult should cut the loofah sponge, as it can be difficult and awkward to cut using scissors.
