How to Create Butterfly Wedding Favors Decorations
Whether you are having an outdoor wedding or would just like to bring a little nature to an indoor ceremony, consider using butterflies as a wedding favor. Creating your own wedding favors is not only budget-friendly but also shows your guests you put some time and thought into their gifts. With a little planning, you can use decorative butterflies as personal table seating arrangements that double as gifts. Paint guests' names onto the butterflies so they can find their seat and take home the butterfly as a memento. If you incorporate butterflies into your theme, this will make the wedding favor that much more meaningful.

Find plastic or silk butterflies at your local craft, toy or hobby store. You can also expand your search to online shops. Consider your wedding colors when picking out your butterflies. Order as many butterflies as you have attending guests. You may want to order extra in case any guests RSVP at the last minute or you need to redo a few.

Find paint to decorate your butterflies. Select the proper paint to go with the materials. If you are using silk butterflies, the best paint to use is a fabric paint that is specifically labeled for silk. You can find this at a craft or fabric store. Acrylics will work well for plastic butterflies. Select a thin and pointed paintbrush as you will need room to paint guests' names on the butterflies wings. If you want to paint the whole butterfly before adding the names, use a slightly bigger paintbrush. Choose your colors carefully.

Paint your butterflies on a surface covered with newspapers. If you are painting the entire butterfly, do this first. Let the butterfly dry and add an extra coat if needed. Once the butterfly is covered and dried, use your small brush to paint each guest's name neatly on one of the butterfly's wings. This can be a time-consuming project so you may want to enlist the help of your wedding party.

Arrange the butterflies either at the wedding favor table or place each guest's butterfly on her plate before the reception. This way the butterflies not only act as gifts, but as decorative place cards.
