So, you are applying to business school and need to know how to write business school essays? Well, you've come to the right article to get advice for business school essays. I will also show you where to get business school essay samples and business school essay examples. Now, for some of us who scroll with the depth of Shakespeare, the intensity of Stephen King, and the soul of Maya Angelou, essays are pretty much a cinch. For others, essays can seem frustrating and overwhelming. Here are some guidelines to keep in mind:

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

Diplomatic and generic essays will not differentiate you from the huge stack of essays the admissions office has to read. Do not write what you think they want to hear. Share your professional and personal stories in a down to earth manner. Avoid cliches, quotes, and over-used phrases.

  2. Step 2

Many schools ask about a time you have had to overcome a challenge or obstacle. Don't be afraid to show that you've failed at something, it's a perfect opportunity to highlight what you've learned. Growth and introspection are signs of maturity.

  3. Step 3

The "Why MBA, Why Now, Why School X essay" is standard for most schools. Have this essay down pat, and make sure you insert the correct school name in your essays before submitting. Also, have a strong sense of what you would like to do after obtaining your MBA and be sure to address this. It's a perfect segue to why the school is a good fit for you.

  4. Step 4

Essay word limits can be over or under around ten percent. Know these limits to avoid a ticket. For example, if the word limit is 500, keep your essay word length at a minimum of 450 and maximum of 550.

  5. Step 5
    spell checker

Eh-hem! Is this thing on? Make sure the Spell Check is on and working appropriately. Turning in essays full of grammar and spelling errors makes the admissions representatives wonder if you are seriously considering graduate level education.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always ask at least two other people to review your essays, preferably colleagues that are in school or who have already graduated. MBADiversity.org provides a warm network of mentors for members.

  • Do not have anyone write your essays for you. Not only is this unethical, but admissions representatives will know once they interview you. Your verbal speech will be at least one indicator because your conversational skills will not align with the tone, syntax and overall grammer used in the essays.

on 12/9/2008 Good common sense and yet helpful pointers. It's funny how when presented with something this important we can draw a blank and suddenly feel unqualified and unable to complete the task. :-)
