It's harder for some people than others to walk out onto a beach wearing a bathing suit. For certain people, even wearing a swimsuit in their own back yard can cause them to feel automatically self-conscious. When you feel that uncomfortable, it's hard to take pleasure in whatever it is that you're doing. There are ways that you can feel comfortable while wearing a bathing suit and be able to enjoy yourself.

From Quick Guide: Ultimate Packing List
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a bathing suit that downplays the part of your body you're uncomfortable with. If it's your stomach or hips, there are bathing suits that will provide full coverage and even make these attributes appear as if they are smaller then they actually are. There are even bathing suits that can make your breasts appear smaller. Whatever part of your body you're nervous about exposing, there is likely a bathing suit that can provide the coverage you're seeking.

  2. Step 2

Wear a sarong or a cover-up. You can tie a sarong around your waist so some of your lower half and the upper part of your bathing suit are exposed. A cover-up can cover as much or as little as you want. You can even wear one that covers you from neck all the way down to your toes.

  3. Step 3

Try on a bathing suit before you wear it out. If you quickly put it on without first trying it on and evaluating how it fits, there may be a problem later on. If you try it on first, you can always buy a new one if your current one really isn't for you. You should love what you're wearing, not just be accepting of it.

  4. Step 4

Do something every day to pump up your confidence. When you're walking around in a bathing suit, confidence can mean everything. It can make you feel better and radiate power from the inside out. If you work on your self-confidence a little each day, you just may be prepared when it's time to wear the bathing suit.

  5. Step 5

Avoid evaluating every inch of your body and pointing out your flaws. Instead, try standing in front of the mirror and pointing out everything that is wonderful about your body. Not only could your confidence in wearing a bathing suit improve, but you may stop being your worst critic and start being your biggest fan in every aspect of your life.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy a bathing suit that fits well and that you absolutely love, instead of one that follows current trends. If it looks good on you, you can wear it the following year as well.
