Beat the Sun God Boss in "Chrono Trigger"

The Super Nintendo role-playing game Chrono Trigger has your party of adventurers traveling through time and to all corners of the game's world. During their travels, the party will battle many strange and fantastic creatures, such as the sun god who inhabits an ancient shrine on a small island. The battle can be incredibly difficult without the correct strategy, because the boss has multiple moving parts that all counterattack whenever they are damaged.

Instructions

    • 1
      The Epoch

Play through the game until your party obtains the time-traveling flying machine called the Epoch. Put the character named Magus into your party and fight in random battles anywhere on the world map until he learns the spell called "Black Hole."

    • 2
      The Island

Equip all of your party members with any fire-resistant armor you bought earlier in the game, such as the Ruby Mail or the Red Armor. Board the Epoch and use it to travel to the year 2,300 A.D. Fly to the south and then east and land on the island that has a destroyed skyscraper on it. Get out of the Epoch and go inside the cave on the center of the island.

      The Sun God

Run to the very back end of the cave to initiate combat with the sun god boss. Skip over your other two characters' turns and have Magus use the "Black Hole" spell to destroy two of the flame creatures that surround the sun god.

      Fighting the Sun God

Go back to one of your other characters and have them use any of their spells that affect all enemies on the screen. Wait for one of the two remaining flame creatures to respond with a fire-spell counterattack and then have any of your party members use a normal physical attack on the other flame creature.

      Defeating the Boss

Repeat the process of using an area-affect spell and then striking the flame creature that doesn't counterattack seven more times to defeat the sun god boss.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't try to directly strike the sun god with a physical attack, or it will use a counterattack that can wipe out your whole party.
