Pelvic Inflammatory Disease aka PID is an infection of the uterus or fallopian tubes or other reproductive organ. It can lead to infertility, ectopic pregnancy and chronic pain in the pelvis region. Here's how to get the info on this disease.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

LEARN THE CAUSES. The cause is from bacteria. Bacteria moves from the vagina region and cervix to the reproductive organs (such as the uterus and fallopian tubes). Individuals with Gonorrhea and Chlamydia should be most aware as the germs from these diseases often cause this new dilemma.

  2. Step 2

WHO'S MOST AT RISK: Sexually active women in their childbearing ages. This is any age in which menstruation begins to the moment that it ends (menopause). The most susceptible are young women, particularly teenagers.

  3. Step 3

SYMPTOMS OF PID. PID is very difficult to diagnose. This is because symptoms vary. Some women show symptoms whereas in many cases plenty of women show no symptoms at all. The known symptoms are: lower abdominal pain, fever, unusual vaginal discharge, painful intercourse and urinating, irregular menstrual bleeding.

  4. Step 4

TREATMENT OF PID. PID can be cured with antibiotics. Antibiotics after all are used strictly to kill invasive bacteria. The treatment will kill the bacteria but if PID has been prolonged, the treatment will not reverse the damage done to your reproductive organs.

  5. Step 5

SOME FACTS: There have been cases of PID in non-sexually active teenagers. In one particular case the culprit was pinworms. Albendazole was used to clear the worms.

  6. Step 6

JUST SO YOU KNOW...It can happen to anyone. Don't believe that you are invincible, as this disease affects more than 1 MILLION WOMEN ANNUALLY. Early detection is the best way to prevent lasting damage. Knowledge is power.

Tips & Warnings
  • Early detection is important
  • If you feel something is wrong check it out
  • DO NOT IGNORE THE SIGNS
  • Infertility is forever...so if your body's telling you something, listen to it.
  • For those who show no symptoms..if you feel something is wrong, or if you've been regularly sexual active, try to find a gynecologist. Your pediatrician can't help you no more..
