Flood-filling an image can be the fastest way to change its color. Learn how to use Flood Fill in Paint Shop Pro 7.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer running Paint Shop Pro (PSP) 7
  1. Step 1

Start Paint Shop Pro, and open the image you want to modify. In the toolbar on the left side of the screen, look for the picture of a diagonal paint can with a drop coming from it. Click on it.

  2. Step 2

At the top of the Tool Options window is the label "Blend mode:" while directly below it is a down arrow. Click the down arrow, and a list of options pop up. "Normal" means the actual color you selected will be applied to the image. Try the other ones to get different results.

  3. Step 3

Underneath the "Blend mode:" box is "Match mode." box. Click the down arrow to open a list of selections. Each choice matches surrounding colors to the color you fill, but in a slightly different way. Selecting "None" means the entire image will be filled.

  4. Step 4

Below the "Match mode" box is the "Tolerance" slider. To change it, click on the down arrow to the right of it, and hold the mouse button in. Move the mouse either to the left or the right to adjust. The higher the value you select, the more colors that will be filled. Try different values to get the range of colors you want filled.

  5. Step 5

To the right of the "Tolerance" slider is the "Opacity" slider. Use this slider to decide to what degree you want the colors underneath the new color to show through. It's like using a colored lens as paint.

  6. Step 6

Click on the "Sample merged" checkbox if you want to include all layers rather than just the current layer. If you're unsure what a layer is, leave it as is.

  7. Step 7

Move to the spot on the image you want to fill, and click on it. If it turns out bad, undo, change the settings, and try again.
