Step 1
Upon realizing you have got your cell phone wet, take it off from the water immediately.
-
Step 2
The casings of cell phones are pretty tight but water can still sip inside it really fast so grab your phone quickly.
-
Step 3
Remove your phone’s battery immediately. Remove the sim card if your phone runs with a GSM carrier and have your phone completely dried. Remove any covers in your phone and shake it gently to remove excess water.
-
Step 4
Use a dry towel or a tissue to blot it dry. Never ever use a hair dryer even on a cool setting when drying your phone as this will only cause to force the moisture to drive deeper into small components of your phone.
-
Step 5
You may also want to leave your phone into a moisture absorbing environment overnight such as in a bag of uncooked rice. This will help drawing out remnants of moisture away from your phone. Blot the phone in absorbing papers.
-
Step 6
Let it sit to determine if there is still a presence of moisture inside your phone. If you see that there is still moisture in it, repeat subjecting your phone into a moisture absorbing environment. Finally, if you feel like your phone has completely dried out, you may now re-attach your phone’s battery and test if the phone is working. If it does not, look into other factors. You may need to also change the battery as it might have been damaged from getting wet.

on 11/29/2008 I love your idea of putting the phone in the rice! Hopefully I won't have to use this advice... :-)
