How to Start a Conversation

How to start a conversation can give so much pressure to some people. However, it is necessary to know how to start a convesation because there will always be social functions in which we need to interact with other people, especially with people that we do not know. Knowing how to start a conversation can help you deal with situations such as wanting to meet and impress someone in a crowded room.
Here are some of the easiest ways on how to start a conversation:

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start with a simple hello in starting a conversation. Then introduce yourself and ask their name, and offer a handshake. Be aware of your surroundings and talk about anything that can start a good conversation.

  2. Step 2

If you cannot think of any topic to talk about, offer a complement. However, do not say a good thing about something that is obviously not. Giving a sincere complement is a good way to make someone feel at ease.

  3. Step 3

Complement about the way someone dresses up, about the shoes, jeans or bag but remember that it is not a good idea to complement on a person’s body.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not be afraid to ask questions. Avoid talking too much about yourself. It is important to keep your questions light. If he or she is not responsive to your questions, do not push. When he or she starts a conversation, run with it and be interested. You can agree, ask anything about it or give an opinion.
  • It is important to maintain eye contact while having the conversation. However, do not stare too long. In addition, use the name of the person once or twice throughout the conversation to help you remember the name as well as to to draw attention to the person.
  • Do not forget to smile and relax.
