Those rust stains on the bottom of your pool
can make a beautiful pool look neglected and dirty. He's a great way to remove many types of stains...Helpful advice from a former swimming pool service professional.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Goggles
  • 1 gallon Muriatic Acid
  • Drill with 1/8 or smaller drill bit
  • weights to hold you under water
  1. Step 1

First wait until your PH level has risen to 7.8 or higher. You will be adding acid to the water and this will lower your PH when you go after the stains.

  2. Step 2

Drill a small hole in the top of the acid bottle to make it a squeeze bottle.
Put on whatever weights you need to hold you down on the bottom of the pool. Put on your goggles.

  3. Step 3

Hold your breath and sink to the area you want to treat. Move slowly and try not to stir up the water. Invert the acid bottle and squeeze lightly and very close over the rust spot. The acid is heavier than water so it will flow out of the bottle and sink over the spot. Just use a little...wait 5 seconds, then swish the area to disperse the acid. Check your results! One or two attempts is enough...any more may damage the surface of the plaster. If the stains are going to come off this should do it.

Tips & Warnings
  • The acid will disperse and will not harm you if you follow directions.
  • Be sure to have a helper on topside to help and spot more stains
  • This is a good way to kill two birds with one stone...removing stains and lowering your PH level.
  • Don't use more than 1/2 gallon at a time as the PH level may drop below 7.2
  • A little goes a long way.
  • Too much acid will require sodium bicarbonate or PH up to raise the PH level
  • Be careful when handling pool chemicals. Acid can be dangerous!
