If you have a garbage disposal in your kitchen sink then you probably have experience how smelly it can get. Think about all that is washed down the drain of the sink and can get clogged in the garbage disposal. Instead of using chemicals to clean your garbage disposal, use natural ingredients to clean your smelly garbage disposal

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Turn on the water in the sink and run it at half throttle. Drop in the orange or lemon peels.

  2. Step 2

Turn on the garbage disposal for 5 seconds and then turn it off. Turn off the water also. The citric acid from the peels help to loosen the waste and kill the bacteria in the garbage disposal.

  3. Step 3

Wait 15 minutes and then turn the water back on along with the garbage disposal.

  4. Step 4

Drop in your ice cubes into the garbage disposal. The ice cubes act almost like sandpaper to help clean away the dirt and grime in the smelly garbage disposal.

  5. Step 5

Once all the ice cubes have been grinded up by the garbage disposal, turn the disposal off. Leave the water running though.

  6. Step 6

Place the drain stopper in the drain in the sink. Fill up the sink half way with water.

  7. Step 7

Pull the drain stopper back out and turn on the garbage disposal to flush out all the particles with the water. Your garbage disposal will not be smelly anymore and will actually smell like lemons or oranges for awhile.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't wait for your garbage disposal to get smelly to clean it out. Clean your garbage disposal once every month to prevent it from getting to the smelly point.
