Anyone who cooks a lot knows that a wooden cutting board can get stained and dirty quite easily. Wooden cutting boards are a great option over glass ones, but many people may not use them because of how easy they get stained. There is a quite easy way that you can clean your dirty and stained wooden cutting board and prevent it from getting stained in the future.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wooden cutting board
  • Lemon
  • Kosher salt
  • Mineral oil
  • Clean cloth
  • Water
  1. Step 1

Take your wooden cutting board and scour the surface of it with the inside of a lemon along with a pile of kosher salt. Make sure to focus on the parts of the cutting board that are badly stained. The kosher salt will act as an abrasive while the lemon acid will kill off bacteria.

  2. Step 2

Wipe off the lemon and kosher salt with a cloth. Apply mineral oil all over the wooden cutting board with a clean cloth. This helps to prevent future stains on the cutting board.

  3. Step 3

Rinse the wooden cutting board in the sink, letting the water wash off all the lemon and kosher salt. You may have to use your hands or a dish-washing brush to get all the things completely off the cutting board.

  4. Step 4

Once all the stains and dirt has been removed from the wooden cutting board, place the cutting board on a flat surface to dry.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you have cleaned your wooden cutting board once like this, it will be less work to clean it in the future. The mineral oil that was applied to the wooden cutting board will help cut down on future stains so you can just wash it like normal in the future.
