A projector TV can give you a viewing experience similar to a movie theater. You can see sharp, glare-free images up to twenty feet in diameter. You may want to rent one for a special party or sports event. Here are some things you should know before reserving the equipment.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a front projector TV. A rear projection TV produces a lower resolution image, is bulky, heavy and has a tendency to produce "hot spots" on the screen. A front projector is lighter, portable and can produce HD quality images.

    • 2

Think about the lighting where the projector TV will be located. Most are optimal in darkened rooms. Ask your rental company for one that has a projector bulb that is over 1,000 lumens. It will give you a bit more flexibility with viewing quality. Some projectors may have a multiple lamp feature that will give you more options to adjust the brightness.

    • 3

Consider the amount of time you will spend watching TV. The projector's lamp life (bulb) averages up to 4,000 hours. It will not be a consideration if you are renting for a short period of time. If you are keeping the device for over six months, be aware that you may have to replace the bulb. Cost is $200 to $500 dollars.

    • 4

Front projector TVs do not have a built-in screen. You will need to buy or rent a viewing screen for the best image quality. Images from the projector can be viewed anywhere, but will look best on a smooth white surface.

    • 5

Rent a projector with a high contrast ratio. Dark scenes and subtle colors will be sharper and easier to distinguish.

    • 6

Remember that you will need a cable/satellite hookup or DVD player to view movies and programs. You cannot view standard broadcast programming with a projector TV.

    • 7

Think about sound quality. Projector TVs have small, low-quality speakers built in to their system. You will need to attach speakers to a receiver to have a better audio experience.

    • 8

If the TV will be used for gaming, be sure the projector has a computer input slot.

    • 9

Look for projector TVs with a resolution of 720p or higher for HD viewing. The greater the number of pixels, the sharper and more seamless the images will be.

    • 10

Compare rental prices from various sources. Think about your budget and the length of time you will need the projector. Some companies require you to pay for a minimum number of days. Others may have lease or single day rentals available. Many require a deposit in advance. If you are renting it for yourself, keep in mind that some companies only rent to businesses.
