How to Do a Two Person Medicine Ball Standing Twist

This is a fun exercise to do with another person. It helps tone and shape the midsection, as well as loosen the muscles of the shoulders and low back. By doing this exercise with another person, you use a greater range of motion as you work to reach your partner than you would working on your own. This can give you a deeper workout and motivate you to work harder than you might on your own.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand back-to-back with your partner, about 1 foot away from him. As you do this exercise, you may need to step closer or farther apart as needed. Hold onto the medicine ball.

    • 2

Stand up straight and keep your knees slightly bent. Throughout this exercise, it is important for both you and your partner to keep your knees pointing straight ahead and to not twist the knees, as this can cause injury to the joint.

    • 3

Twist to the right as your partner twists to the left. Stretch your arms and hand the ball to your partner. Again, you can step closer together or farther apart as needed.

    • 4

Twist to the left as your partner twists right and take the ball back from him.

    • 5

Continue passing the ball around in a circle for eight to 12 repetitions. Then reverse directions. Focus on twisting from the waist a little further with each repetition.

Tips & Warnings

  • Stand far enough away from your partner so you can fully stretch your arms and twist deeply.

  • To protect your knees from injury, keep them bent and pointing straight forward the entire time. Avoid twisting the knees during this exercise.
