How to Use Nioxin Products

How to Use Nioxin Products thumbnail
Nioxin is a three-step system for reducing hair loss.

Nioxin products, developed by Nioxin Research Labs in Atlanta, focus on hair and scalp treatment, designed to prevent hair loss or reduce the rate at which hair loss occurs, according to the manufacturer's claims. The company markets its line of hair thinning products primarily to professional hair salons although you may also locate the items online. The Nioxin Program consists of a three-step system, a cleanser, a scalp therapy product and a leave-in scalp treatment. In addition, there are eight levels of Nioxin products, each developed with a different hair type in mind.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the Nioxin level that best corresponds with your hair type. Divided into eight levels, each level consists of three products. System 1 is for fine hair that is just beginning to thin. System 2 is for fine hair with advanced thinning. System 3 is for fine, chemically treated hair and System 4 is for fine, chemically treated hair with advanced thinning.

    • 2

Select System 5 if you have thick hair that is just beginning to thin or choose System 6 for thick hair with advanced thinning. System 7 is for thick, chemically treated hair with little thinning and System 8 is for thick, chemically treated hair that shows advanced stages of thinning.

    • 3

Begin the Nioxin program with the cleanser included in your starter kit. Wet your hair, apply a quarter-size portion of cleanser to your palm and rub your hands together. Apply the cleanser to your hair, distributing it evenly without massaging it into your scalp. Allow the product to remain on your hair for up to two minutes before rinsing with warm water.

    • 4

Apply Nioxin Scalp Therapy. Use a generous amount and massage it through your hair and scalp for three minutes. Work it through evenly, coating all hair shafts with the product before rinsing your hair with warm water.

    • 5

Towel-dry your hair before applying the third step in the Nioxin program. Nioxin Scalp Treatment is a leave-in conditioner, so apply a small amount to the palm of your hand and rub your palms together to distribute it evenly before applying to your hair and working the product through from the roots to the ends of the hair shafts.

    • 6

Style your hair as usual. With the Nioxin Scalp Treatment in, you may comb or blow-dry your hair.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the Nioxin three-step program daily, as recommended by Nioxin Labs, for the best results. You may use Nioxin products in conjunction with other hair thinning products such as Propecia.
