1
Learn about the reasons why people become independent voters. What most people mean when they say they are independent is that they are not party loyalists. Many believe that the dual-party system that rules the United States is a corrupt force that aides in the degradation of democracy in America.
-
2
Ask yourself what is important to you. Many times you will find that there are positive and negative attributes that make up both candidates. Don't be blinded by the dual-party system that dominates American politics. Really look all the candidates running and decide to vote for the best person running--not the party you like the best.

-
3
Look at the issues and find out where each candidate stands on these issues. If the candidate has been involved in politics previously, investigate her voting record and check to see if what she says and what she does match.
-
4
Choose independent news sources. Non-profit news sources such as "Democracy Now!" and "NPR" are likely to give you information and opinions on issues and events that you will not see or hear about on mainstream corporate media sources (see Resources below).
-
5
Give yourself enough time to really synthesize this information before Election Day. Make up your mind before you go to the polls to vote.

I am absolutely convinced the 2 party system is degrading our democracy. The blame game has replaced action in our government. This ploy is called diversion. My choices have continuously narrowed as government has been limiting them. Both main parties want big business so they can have big government and more power. Ever heard the phrase "too big to fail" ? Both democrat and republican politicians play polarize or pit the citizens against each other. When was the last time you heard a politician trying to unite people? This ploy is called creating a common enemy to garner votes, but what does it produce for the citizen ? I'm sick of these politicians who don't want to accomplish anything positive for our country. The last times I was contacted by both parties, they wanted money to block things. I told them to call me back when they actually came up with an idea. I'm done with them...
