Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Red Filigree Lace Japanese Maple
  • Fertilizer
  • Organic matter
  1. Step 1

The finest lace leaf selections of Japanese Maple. The finely divided foliage maintains its color well even in the heat of summer. ‘Red Filigree Lace’ Discovered by William Curtis, Sherwood, Oregon, was eventually acquired and distributed. 'Red Filigree Lace' has uniform color, a deep purple-red. Although the plant looks very delicate because of the extremely lacy foliage, it is actually quite sturdy and holds up well against heat and humidity.

  2. Step 2

Red Filigree Lace likes partial shade. Morning sun and afternoon shade is best or dappled shade is great too. Dig a hole about twice the size of the root ball. For a vigorous healthy maple amend your soil with organic matter and incorporate a slow release fertilizer.

  3. Step 3

When you are ready to plant your maple, bury the root-ball to the soil line. Water in well. I also suggest adding a layer of mulch two to four inches deep. Be sure the mulch is not touching the trunk of your maple. Water your maple every other day for a week until it is established.
