Step 1
Look for a suit with a solid print. One piece suits tend to have floral or geometric prints that seem outdated & matronly. Instead, find a sleek one piece suit in a dark color.
-
Step 2
Go for separates if you can't find a one piece. Find boy shorts & a tankini top that will cover your stomach.
-
Step 3
Shop at a sporting goods store. They tend to have well made suits with high necks.
-
Step 4
Change your department. Sure, the juniors department has tons of options, but they are mostly string bikinis.
-
Step 5
Rethink the swim dress. Swim dresses used to be two toned & have a little ballet skirt on them. Now, they are really sleek & modern looking.
-
Step 6
Pull out the catalogs. Higher end stores might use more fabric. Sure, the suit might cost more but if you're comfortable, it's worth it.

on 6/23/2009 I had a hard time finding a modest swimsuit that was cute and sporty. I'm a mom with a light complexion and I wanted to cover up and not get burned. I tried step 2, tankinis are not for me, and everything at the sporting goods stores, step 3, made my chest look like 2 bee hives. I found some vintage swimsuits, so cute, but with a very modern price $200 (yikes). In the end I found Hydrochic and got a swim bottom, a swim top with a swim bra that makes my boobs look normal, and I didn't spend anywhere near $200. I just wish they had kids sizes for my girls. http://www.hydrochic.com
