Working in the fashion industry as a stylist can be a rewarding career. Stylists work on editorial photo shoots for magazines and newspapers. They also work with celebrities for red-carpet events. To work as a fashion stylist, you'll need an education in fashion design or styling and experience as an intern or stylist assistant. While the world of fashion may seem glamorous, expect to start out working long hours for little pay.

Instructions

1. Take fashion styling or design courses. Focus your education on learning sewing skills, fitting and fabrics. Develop a styling or design portfolio that you can take to job and internship interviews.

2. Work as a stylist assistant or intern to learn exactly how the job works. Make connections in the industry, and build your resume. Expect low pay.

3. Apply for stylist positions. Use your education and work experience to help you land a position or freelance jobs. You may have to work in another field to supplement your income while you advance your styling career.
