Concrete curing compounds and concrete sealers are two different products used for two different purposes. They can be used in sequence when necessary.
Wet curing is the best method for curing concrete. However, if the weather is too dry and windy to allow proper wet curing, you can use a concrete curing product. It will keep the concrete from drying too quickly, which would weaken the finished concrete. Curing products only effective for the first few days after the pour.
Concrete sealers are surface coatings. They are used to make the surface of the concrete less vulnerable to water damage. Sealers also protect concrete from other substances and help it last longer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Curing compound (optional) Sprayer Scrub brush Concrete cleaner/degreaser Scrub brush and bucket Rubber gloves Disposable ventilator Paint brush Paint roller with medium nap
  1. Step 1

Spray the compound evenly on the wet concrete if weather conditions require the use of a concrete curing compound. It is important to do this immediately after floating the surface to be effective. Let the concrete complete curing for 28 days.

  2. Step 2

Clean the concrete thoroughly. New concrete usually only needs to be scrubbed with a detergent. Older concrete may need a concrete cleaner/degreaser to remove stains and grease. Let the concrete dry completely before continuing.

  3. Step 3

Stir the concrete sealer gently to make sure it is thoroughly mixed. Don't shake it, though. That will create bubbles that will mar the surface later.

  4. Step 4

Apply the sealer with a paint roller. Use a paintbrush around the edges. Work the sealer into the surface of the concrete.

  5. Step 5

Let the sealer dry for several hours. You can apply a second coat if you want to, but that is usually not necessary.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't roll the sealer too much during application. It will foam and mar the surface. If you are using a sealer system that requires a finish coat, apply it after the sealer is completely dry.
  • Wear protective gear when working with concrete sealer. Gloves, goggles, and a disposable respirator are recommended.
