MANY TYPES OF STOPS. Snowplow, One-foot snowplow, T-stop, power slide and more. There are plenty of ways to stop. However for beginner purposes, we will stick to the simple stops for now. The one-foot snowplow is the easiest stop, so let's begin with that one.

  2. Step 2

BE AWARE OF YOUR BLADE EDGES. Your skates have a blade sections, both inside and outside. You will be using the center of your blade for this stop.

  3. Step 3

PRACTICE NEAR THE WALL. Push the center (flats) of the blade on the ice. Scrape the ice, and hold the wall for support. Notice how it feels. When you are confident enough, glide away from the wall.

  4. Step 4
    ending of your snowplow stop

SNOWPLOW. You should be gliding on the ice now. Push one foot out while pressing on the flats of the blade. At the same time begin bending your knees slightly. This will place your weight inside on the skates. And since your blades are pointed inward at this point, slowing down will be almost automatic.

  5. Step 5

Congratulations! You have successful completed all the steps to a Snowplow Stop. One of the simplest stops, try to do this one as often as you can to master it. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're moving fast, don't snowplow right away. Take some time to let yourself slow down naturally before snowplowing.
  • Practice as often as you can.
  • This is not forceful like a powerslide.
  • Bend your knees inwards always, never outward.
  • Should take a few seconds to stop.
