Donating a car in Alaska not only feels good, sometimes it just makes fiscal sense. You get to enjoy the tax savings on your car donation and you can avoid the hassle of trying to sell the car yourself. If you live in Alaska and want to donate a car, many organizations will handle the entire donation for you without any cost to you. You can also donate the car to the Salvation Army in Alaska. There are thrift stores where you can make the donation in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Petersburg and many more cities. Another option is to contact Donation Line, which accepts vehicle donations.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Car Title
  • Phone or computer and internet connection
  • Car donation company
  1. Step 1

Contact Cars 4 Causes or The Donation Line and tell them you have a car to donate (see Resources). Cars 4 Causes and The Donation Line are car donation organizations that will assist in the donation of your car. They will pick up your car and even handle all the DMV paperwork for you. All you need to do is tell them where to pick up the car and have the car title ready for the donation.

  2. Step 2

Log on the Cars 4 Causes website, or Donation Line Website and go to the donation form page. Fill out the simple donation form with your name, address, phone number and vehicle information. Then submit the form by clicking the "Make Donation" button. Wait until the representative verifies your donation. They will contact you by email or by phone to arrange the pick up of your donation.

  3. Step 3

Contact the Salvation Army Thrift stores in your area, there are three in Anchorage and others spread across the state. Discuss the donation, and set a time to drop off the car. Bring your car and title to a Salvation Army thrift store, after discussing a good time to drop it off.

  4. Step 4

Go to the DMV with your receipt from the car donation in either Anchorage, Fairbanks, Petersburg or the closest DMV to you. Fill out the transfer of ownership form. The organization will fill out the charitable donation form which qualifies the donation and gives ownership and tax exemption to the organization that received the donation.
