Making an arrangement of flowers in a metal wall basket is very simple. The trick is remembering the back of your arrangement needs to be flat and the floral foam and flower stems need to be hidden from view in the basket, because it is wire. If your are making this arrangement of flowers for a holiday decoration, the wall basket and flowers are easy to store after the season. Because the back of the basket is flat, you can lay it in a box without damaging the flowers.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Metal wall basket Floral foam Serrated knife Spanish moss Floral pins Assorted silk flowers Dried flowers Wire edged ribbon Wire cutters
  1. Step 1

Cut the floral foam to fit inside the metal wall basket using the serrated knife. Leave a 1/2-inch space on the sides, front and bottom of the basket.

  2. Step 2

Place Spanish moss in the bottom of the metal wall basket. Set the floral foam in the basket and place the Spanish moss around the inner sides and front of the basket to cover the foam from view. Finish by covering the top of the foam with moss and pinning with floral pins to hold.

  3. Step 3

Lay the metal basket flat on a table surface and work, looking down at your arrangement.

  4. Step 4

Insert one long stem in the middle back of the basket. The stem will extend onto the table.

  5. Step 5

Insert one long stem in the side back of the basket opening at a horizontal slant. Repeat with the other side. You will now have a triangular shape to work your arrangement within.

  6. Step 6

Fill in between the stems, keeping the line of the triangle or arch.

  7. Step 7

Clip additional stems slightly shorter than the first and repeat the triangle in front of the triangle base.

  8. Step 8

Repeat Step 7 as you continue to fill the metal wall basket arrangement. As you move toward the front of the basket, tilt the flowers forward and bring the sides to the front.

  9. Step 9

Add filler stems to continue to plump out the arrangement. Add any dried flower stems at this time.

  10. Step 10

Create a loopy bow using the wire edged ribbon. Wire the ribbon to the edge of the basket.

Tips & Warnings
  • Insert enough Spanish moss in between the sides of the basket and the floral foam to hold the foam snug. This will ensure that your arrangement will not tip or become damaged if jostled. A glue gun is not necessary, but if you feel your arrangement would be more secure if you used one, that is fine. Make sure the glue is camouflaged by the moss and the foam.
