Rust spots can show up on clothing, especially white items, when you least expect them. Sometimes they come from the interior of the washing machine. Washing and scrubbing with commercial spot removers do not remove the rust. Rewashing the items with the spot does not remove the spot either. There is a home treatment you can use that removes rust easily and quickly.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Table salt Lemon juice
  1. Step 1

First, make sure the sun is shining brightly outside. You'll see why later.

  2. Step 2

Buy a fresh lemon from the supermarket. Bring it home and cut it in half. Squeeze the lemon juice onto the rust spot and saturate the cloth with the lemon juice.

  3. Step 3

Sprinkle table salt onto the rust spot that has been saturated with lemon juice.

  4. Step 4

Take the item outside and lay it in the sun so the spot is fully exposed to the sunlight.

  5. Step 5

Wait 20 minutes and check on the spot. Almost every time this method removes the rust. The chemical reaction among the salt, lemon juice and sunlight dissolves the rust. All that should remain is a crust of salt and lemon juice. Wash the item in cold water in the washing machine to remove the salt and lemon juice.
