Things You'll Need:
- sugar
- eggs
- flour
- maple syrup
- oatmeal
- cooling rack
- minced onion
-
Step 1
meringye pieI know it's happened to you, too. You go to cut through the Meringue Topping and you drag it along with the knife. AUUUGGHH...... Where's a little trick I picked up somewhere.
Sprinkle some SUGAR over the topping. It will cut allot easier. -
Step 2
egg white, sugar and flourThe juice in fruit pies are notorious for overflowing the pan. It makes an awful mess all over the bottom of the oven.
Just beat an egg white until it's stiff; mix it with a little sugar.
Add 1 teaspoon flour, mix it into the fruit throughly.
The fruit juices will stay in the pie and not all over the bottom of the oven. -
Step 3
maple syrupGive your next custard pie a surprise flavor.
Pour some maple syrup into the pie shell before adding the custard.
Make your custard pie as usual.
It's like FLAN in a pie shell.
UUMM!! I love Flan. -
Step 4
oatmeal street signNow you can't even tell the difference with this one.
Save an egg, too, while doing this.
When making a steamed squash or sweet potato pie, beat 1 Tablespoon of COOKED OATMEAL into the custard mixture. -
Step 5
cooling rackwhen you take a pumpkin, sweet potato or squash pie out of the oven don't set it on a flat surface.
Instead set it on a cooling rack.
This will keep the bottom of the pie dry an d keep it from getting soggy, too. -
Step 6
minced onionIf you want requests for your "secret" pie recipe, try this.
When your making a meat pie put 1 Tablespoon minced onion into the baking powder crust dough.
It is DELICIOUS!!!!
