Do a Gift Exchange
Do a Gift Exchange

Secret Santa, Pollyanna, Chris Kringle are all different names for a Christmas Gift exchange. This is a fun and inexpensive way to celebrate the gift of giving at Christmas time or anyother time besides Christmas!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pen
  • Paper
  • Wish list
  • Something to pick a name from. (hat, bowel or cup)
  1. Step 1

A gift exchange is when members of a group are randomly assigned other members to whom they anonymously give a gift. This is often done in workplaces, or amongst large families. It is a fun and inexpensive way to exchange gifts at Christmas time. Start by picking a date to exchange your gifts. If you are doing this with your family, Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas day are both great ideas. A good day to start the exchange is on Thanksgiving where most of the same people will be present.

  2. Step 2

Once you have picked your date you will want to set a limit for the amount to spend on each gift.

  3. Step 3

Everyone who wants to join in the exchange must make a wish list (usually of three things) costing no more than the set limit. The person must make sure to write their names on top of their list.

  4. Step 4

All names are put into a bowel or hat and mixed together.

  5. Step 5

Everyone picks out a name and makes sure not to get their own name. Everyone should keep their person a secret until they exchange their gifts with one another.

  6. Step 6

The day of the gift exchange you can either place all the gifts on a table, marked with the name of the receiver but not the giver or you can personally give the recipient the present, thereby revealing your identity.
