Things You'll Need:
- Sensible diet
- Time for exercise
-
Step 1
First understand that the math for weight gain is very simple. If the number of calories you consume is greater than what you burn with exercise, you WILL gain weight. Let's say you burn about 2,000 calories a day with your lifestyle. To lose weight, you can decide to either consume less calories or exercise more.
-
Step 2
It can be hard to resist the delicious treats available during the holidays so the best solution may be to eat what you like (in smaller portions) AND make time to exercise. You can have your mom's favorite pie, just take a smaller portion. You can also add some exercise by taking a walk during your lunch break or playing some sports with the kids in the snow!

Step 3
These small tips can help you avoid the additional pounds most Americans pile on during the holidays: 1. If you get too hungry before dinner, snack on veggies, fruit, or nuts. Both protein and fiber-rich foods are good for you and help you feel fuller longer. 2. Drink a full glass of water before eating meals. It will help you feel full sooner. 3. Reduce the amount of carbs you eat and increase foods that might aid in digestion like the fiber mentioned above (can also be found in fruits and veggies if you are skipping breads) 4. If you decide to diet, do so around the holidays but not on them. Let yourself go and enjoy the actual celebration! For example, you'll be less tempted to cheat if you diet two weeks after the holiday instead of the week of. Less portions of junk food, higher portions of good food, and a few extra walks around the neighborhood and you can drop pounds easily and healthfully. Good luck!
