Step 1
HikingMake plans to do something that day. Whether it's a hike, a movie, or cooking your favorite dinner and watching a favorite movie, spend the day doing something that you would love to do. It give you something to look forward to.
-
Step 2
Go to the CasinoPlan a day at a local casino. This way you can be alone, but with people around you.
-
Step 3
BahamasAvoid the holiday all together by traveling. Heading to a warm vacation spot, and particularly a vacation spot where Thanksgiving is not celebrated is a perfect solution. Imagine scuba diving in the Bahamas.
-
Step 4
Adopt a DogA few days before Thanksgiving, go to the human society and adopt a cat or a dog. It will give Thanksgiving a whole new meaning to be able to share it with a new pet.
-
Step 5
Celebrating being alonePurchase a brand new video or computer game. Spend the day playing and munching on popcorn.
-
Step 6
AloneDon't romance the day. Don't think about yourself being alone or not having a family and then end up feeling sorry for yourself. Many families only get together for the holidays because they think they have to. Many dinners end with fighting because expectations are too high. Most people won't say this, but they would rather be someplace else and may even dream of being alone on that day, but never tell because they would feel guilty. Avoid bars because you will feel even lonelier.
-
Step 7
Soaking in Hot TubFinish the day by soaking in a hot tub or building a fire. Read a magazine or a lighthearted book.
-
Step 8
Comfy SleepThe day before, purchase a brand new set of bed linens. Dress your bed, with the bedding and fluffy pillows so you will look forward to crawling into bed.

on 11/24/2008 I've spent Thanksgiving alone before, and quite enjoyed it. My kids were with their Dad and Stepmother. I didn't have to cook, clean the house, or do dishes. I spent the day watching movies and eating snacks that I like - without having to share! It was like a mini-vacation. Thanks for your suggestions!
