Smashed your new ATV into a tree and cracked the plastic? Don't worry, you can avoid paying top dollar for factory replacement plastic with a few common tools and a few minutes of spare time. Follow this guide and get back on the trail in no time.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Drill and drill bit Several large or medium zip ties
  1. Step 1

Drill a hole at the interior end of the crack in the plastic. This should stop the crack from spreading.

  2. Step 2

Drill holes along the length of the crack, one on either side, spaced about 1 1/2 inches apart.

  3. Step 3

Use the zip ties to "lace up" the cracked plastic. Run the tie through the holes on either side of the crack, and pull tight. Leave the end of the zip tie on the underside of the plastic so it stays out of sight. Trim the excess from each stitch.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a drill bit that is roughly the same size as the width of the zip ties used. Be careful while drilling, and make sure the drill is held firmly to the place that needs drilling. Use zip ties that match the color of your ATV's plastic.
  • This method will repair many large plastic cracks, but it cannot fix a huge crack that spans a large part of the plastic. For cracks that leave a heavy part of the plastic flopping unsupported, it may be better to spring for a replacement.
