How to Protect Yourself From Date Rape

Date rape can be a horrible experience to go through. It's a horrible crime and it happens way to often in out society. Here is how you can help protect yourself from date rape.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Date
  • Awareness
  1. Step 1

Go on multi-couple or group activities as they are less risky than single dates. This is especially true when going on the first or second date with a person.

  2. Step 2

Date someone that you know fairly well rather than someone who you know casually or who you just met a couple days ago.

  3. Step 3

Any first single date should be in a public place. Go out to a restaurant, don't go to their place for dinner. Be especially leery of someone who wants to go somewhere to talk in private. In the first dates with a person there is no reason that you would have to talk in private.

  4. Step 4

Stay sober. Alcohol and drugs can inhibit judgment and you may put your guard down.

  5. Step 5

Don't' go on a blind date unless the person comes with a recommendation from someone you know and trust. Even then, try to make this not a single date with just you and the blind date.

  6. Step 6

Never leave a restaurant, party, or bar with someone you do not know. This is one of the worst things that you could do to put yourself in harms way.

  7. Step 7

Trust your instinct. If you are getting a bad vibe from a person, bail on the date. Being a little rude is far better than suffering from sexual assault. Call a friend or family member to come and get you.

  8. Step 8

Be on the lookout for a control freak. If you find yourself with someone that insists on his way and ignores your likes and feelings, he may also have no regard for your physical boundaries also.

  9. Step 9

Steer clear of men who tell raunchy jokes (especially when you first meet them), enjoy pornography and talk about it, or make degrading comments about women. These men have problems with women and sexuality and may be harmful if they don't get their way with you.

  10. Step 10

Don't waste your time with someone who will not accept your limits. If they try to force you, or beg you for physical contact, they may end up not just begging but just taking in the end run.

Tips & Warnings
  • Just because you follow these tips, does not guarantee that date rape will not happen to you, but if you follow them, you will be more aware of things which can lead you to being less likely to being date raped.
