Change The Time in Windows XP

If you need to change the time and date in Windows XP, learn how.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer running Windows XP
  1. Step 1

Move the mouse to lower right-hand corner of the screen, so it's on top of the time. Right-click. From the menu that pops up, click on "Adjust Date/Time."

  2. Step 2

In the window that appears, look below the clock. This is the textbox for changing time. Listed from left to right in the box is the hour section followed by a colon, the minute section followed by a colon, the second section followed by a space, and at last, the AM/PM section.

  3. Step 3

Click in the hour section. After clicking, you should see a flashing cursor there, indicating it's ready to be changed. To the right of the textbox are the up and down arrows. Click the up arrow to increment the hour, and click the down arrow to decrement the hour. Repeat this procedure for both the minute and second sections.

  4. Step 4

Click in the AM/PM section. It should become highlighted. Use the up and down arrows to change the AM to PM or PM to AM. Click "Apply" to lock in the new time.

  5. Step 5

To the left of the clock is the calender. The month is displayed in the top left corner, and just to the right of the month is a down arrow. Click this to open a list of months, and then click on the current month to select it.

  6. Step 6

To the right of the month you just selected is the year, and just to the right of that are the up and down arrows used to change the year. Click the arrows to adjust the year.

  7. Step 7

To select the day of the month, click on a day. The area behind the number becomes shaded to indicate the day has been selected. If the area isn't highlighted, click again to highlight it. Click "OK" to lock in the date, and finish.

Tips & Warnings
  • When setting the time, set it a few seconds ahead so you'll have time to double-check that it's right and click "Apply."
